Rocket Invoice Version 2.0 Update
May 12, 2014 — The current version of Rocket Invoice is not actively updated, however the next version is in development. It's a ground-up rewrite of the original version to support the latest techniques in PHP development. The new version will require PHP 5.4 or newer (PHP 5.2 will no longer be supported). My goal is to make invoicing incredibly simple... to do this I had to rethink invoicing. Version 2.0 approaches invoicing in a no-fuss, fun, and simplified manner.

Finally, invoicing that's out of your way and lets to get back to what you love to do.

It's a refreshing approach to invoicing. You are going to love it.

Testing Multi-Language Support

by Cory on February 16th, 2011

International language support is now being tested. To try it, update your installation and follow these directions:

To create a new language file:

  1. Copy the default language file from includes/i18n/lang.default.php to locales/es/lang.php (you will need to create this folder; replace the “es” with your language or locale identifier)
  2. Add the translated variables to your new lang.php file

Your translated language file will appear in the language dropdown in the Setup tab. If you find any inconsistencies please contact us for a fix.

Happy invoicing!

Estimate and Invoice Comments

by Cory on January 24th, 2011

Your customers can now leave feedback and ask questions on invoices and estimates. You can also leave private messages for other administrators (i.e., if a customer needs elaboration or would like to change something on an estimate, you can discuss the changes in private)—all with customizable email notifications.

To take advantage of statement comments, update your Rocket Invoice installation by clicking the Check for Updates link at the top of your installation.

Invoice Templates

by Cory on January 23rd, 2011

In the words of a new Rocket Invoice customer, “invoice customization is a strong point; being able to load a specific template will allow everyone to be happy” because customers will be able to change colors, add images and rearrange invoice layouts to fit their company’s needs.

To create a new template, download the sample ZIP. Upload it to the Rocket Invoice directory (same level as includes and plugins). Templates should be placed within a folder inside the branding/templates/statements directory.

Pro-tip: If you’d like to override the default templates, create a folder called “default” inside of the statement templates directory.

The following files are used:

config.php — Contains the template’s name
print.php — If present, replaces the default statement PDF template
view.php — If present, replaces the default statement template when viewed in a web browser

To take advantage of statement templates, update your Rocket Invoice installation by clicking the Check for Updates link at the top of your installation.

Rocket Invoice Launch

by Cory on January 20th, 2011

After nearly seven months of development, Rocket Invoice is live! Thank you to all who have pre-ordered and shown interest in Rocket Invoice. It’s truly exciting to finally launch it.

To those who did not get a chance to pre-order, I’m extending the $99 pre-order price until January 25, 2011—so you’ve got an extra five days to purchase it up at the promotional price :-).

The current version also has a few new popular features:

  • HTML Emails and Invoice Notes—add your logo, for example, to new invoice emails and payments
  • International Currency Support—invoice your clients in your local currency and with your local number formatting (i.e., 1.234,56 instead of 1,234.56).

As always, I look forward to working with you and improving Rocket Invoice. If you have any questions or need assistance installing Rocket Invoice on your web server, don’t hesitate to contact me or use the live help link at the bottom of this page.

Customize Currency and Date Format

by Cory on January 14th, 2011

A potential customer emailed today to ask how easily he could change the default currency from $ to £. In short, I’ve been working to support default currencies other than USD and the default date formatting. Attached are screenshots of the work-in-progress update. I’ve got a few rough edges to smooth over before it’ll be included, but hope to have it ready for the January 20th launch.

Update: Non-US currencies will be in the January 20 release.

Happy New Year and a Development Update

by Cory on January 1st, 2011

Happy New Year, everyone! I hope you had a wonderful New Year’s Eve celebration!

I wanted to take a minute to update you on the progress of Rocket Invoice. I’ve been working to redesign Rocket Invoice’s user interface (more “Web 2.0-ish”) and I’m very happy with how it’s coming along; much less “clunky” than the previous design. Click on a screenshot below to see a larger version.

I’ve received many emails about a trial or online demo before pre-ordering; it’s coming soon. I am considering using IonCube to encode a downloadable trial that can be installed on your server, similar to activeCollab and aMember. After purchasing you’ll be sent the complete source code without encoding.

If you haven’t already, consider signing up for the newsletter above.

Let’s make 2011 a great year!
